Returns

At Taking Things Personally, we are committed to providing the best customer service possible to our customers. Our top priority is not only to meet, but to exceed your expectations, and provide an easy shopping experience in the process.

We have a high attention to detail, and are trained to proofread all orders for spelling, grammar, wording and etiquette. However, we cannot verify some customer errors, especially the spelling of proper names, unusual event location, town or street names, the date of your event or anything else unusual. Because of this, we offer a free typesetter's proof for all personalized orders. Please review your proof carefully. Contact us immediately if you see a need to make a correction.

Changes in your order once you receive your proof:

Once you receive your free typesetter proof, you are able to make changes to your order during the proof process before your order goes to press. Although most customers are happy with the first version of their proof, you are welcome to make any amount of changes and view as many proofs as needed to get your order exactly how you want it.

If you choose not to accept your free proof, and notice an error in one of your order confirmations, please contact us immediately and we will try to stop your order and make the necessary changes before it is printed. We cannot guarantee that we can stop your order in time. It will depend on how quickly your order is being processed at the vendor.

Changes or errors in your order after it is printed:

In the unfortunate instance an error in your wording does get printed, we will work with you to correct the mistake quickly and reprint your order at a 40% discount.

Errors made by Taking Things Personally or the Vendor:

If any order were to contain an error or misprint caused by our staff or the vendor, we will happily reprint it at no cost to you.

Returns for non-personalized Items:

Non-personalized items can be returned within 30 days of purchase, and need to include the packing receipt you received with your order. Unfortunately, Taking Things Personally cannot accept any returns of opened products. Once your return is approved and received, your credit card will be credited within 7 business days. Shipping costs cannot be reimbursed or refunded.

Miscellaneous
Sales Tax

Sales tax only applies to orders shipped to California. All California orders must be charged the appropriate sales tax.

Telephone Orders

Taking Things Personally strives to make shopping online as convenient as possible. However, if you wish to place an order by phone, we are available to take your order Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm PST. Please note that while your order may be taken over the phone, whatever text you wish to be printed on the stationery must be either e-mailed or faxed to us to ensure proper spelling, spacing, layout, etc.

Photograph Submission

Digital photo cards offer an extra level of personalization to invitations, holiday cards and birth announcements. To ensure that the quality of your cards meet your expectations, please follow these general guidelines:

  • Please submit digital photos from at least a 3 megapixels camera (a camera phone will generally not produce enough pixels).
  • Consider how your photo size and shape will correspond with the photo card design (a vertical layout should use a vertical photo).
  • Please indicate any special image changes (cropping, black and white, etc.) in the "Special Instructions" area.
  • The quality setting on your camera should be set at 7 or higher.
  • Your photo, or that of a scanned image, should have a minimum resolution of 300 DPI.
  • Read your camera’s manual to learn more about how to create the best print-quality photo.

Permission Statement: Upon submission of your order, you represent to Taking Things Personally that you either own the image or that you have permission from the copyright holder or other owner to reproduce the image, and that the reproduction of the image will not violate the rights of any other person. Also, upon submission of your order, you agree to indemnify Taking Things Personally and defend and hold us harmless from all actions; liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including, but not limited to, attorney's fees and costs, arising out of or relating to: (a) our possession or reproduction of the image and (b) any breach of your representations in the previous sentence.

Typesetter's Proof

A professional typesetter's proof from the stationery manufacturer will display your text and/or design in the final and exact layout requested in your order. While your layout request will be followed as closely as possible, sometimes adjustments are necessary. As soon as the proof is available from the typesetter, you will be e-mailed a typesetters proof for your approval. Typically, proofs are sent to you in approximately 2-4 business days after your order has been placed, but this time may be longer during the holiday season.

Taking Things Personally is committed to providing the best possible customer service experience. In an effort to meet and exceed your expectations, we offer a free typesetter's proof with each personalized product order. During the checkout process you will be given the opportunity to confirm the best method for receiving your typesetter's proof - e-mail or fax. Please note that some typesetter's proofs are offered in black and white, and some in color. If you choose to receive your proof via fax, it will only appear in black and white. Although most customers are happy with the first version of their proof, you are welcome to make any amount of changes and view as many proofs as needed to get your order exactly how you want it.

lease note: Your order will not go to print until your proof is approved; however, your credit card will be charged for the order once the order is placed. If you have chosen to accept a proof, please respond with any changes or approve the proof for your order to be processed.

Due to the fact that a typesetter's proof will delay your order by a few days, and will need to be approved before your order is processed, you can waive the free typesetter's proof at checkout. If you choose not to accept your free proof, and notice an error in one of your order confirmations, please contact us immediately and we will try to stop your order and make the necessary changes before it is printed. We cannot guarantee that we can stop your order in time. Once your order is processed, it cannot be canceled or refunded.

If we receive your order after normal business hours, your proof will be sent the next business day. If you choose not to accept your free typesetter's proof, you invitations will be printed immediately. If you choose to accept your free typesetter's proof, actual turnaround time will depend on approval of the proof, and if additional proofs are requested.

Glossary of Terms
Blank Stock

These are non-printed invitations. Blank stock is usually purchased when the customer would like to print the invitations on a home computer and printer.

FAQ
How many invitations should I order?

The number of invitations depends on the number of guests you plan to invite. Keep in mind that many guests are couples/families who receive one invitation. Taking Things Personally always recommends order at least 25 extra invitations for any that are returned, extra guests that need to be invited, and for all the many reasons extra invitations always come in handy!

What should be included in my “Save-the-Date” announcement?

Save-the-Date announcements can be used for any occasion, and should include the event date and city. The location of the ceremony is optional. In addition, while optional, you might want to include an additional page with travel details, such as nearby hotels and attractions so guests can plan their visit.

When should my invitations be ordered and mailed?

Depending on the type of event, invitations should be sent anywhere from four to eight weeks ahead of time.

  • Wedding invitations should be ordered at least four months before the event, and mailed six to eight weeks in advance, but more time should be allotted if guests are farther away or if the event is on a holiday/holiday weekend.
  • Bar/Bat Mitzvah invitations should be ordered at least three months before the event, and mailed six weeks in advance.
  • Birthday, wedding shower and baby shower invitations should be ordered two months before the event, and mailed four to six weeks in advance.
Who should receive a wedding invitation?

Everyone on the guest list should receive an invitation through the mail, including parents of the groom, the wedding party, and clergy members or judge and spouses.

What types of wedding stationary are recommended?

There are several types of wedding stationery:

  • The invitations asking guests to attend the ceremony or reception.
  • The informal piece can be used for Thank You notes, written invitations or brief messages.
  • Save-the-Date announcements inform guests of the upcoming event.
  • A reception card is separate of the invitation, and can be used to inform guests of a reception after the ceremony, or a separate reception location.
  • The reply card is used for guests to indicate whether or not they are coming to your event. It can also be used to ask guests to select an entree preference, as some caterers request this information prior to the event.
  • A wedding announcement is an option that can be mailed to people who have not been invited to the wedding, but who you would like to inform them of the marriage.
  • Wedding programs help keep your guests informed about the service. It is also useful to introduce guests to the traditions taking place, mention loved ones not present at the event and introduce the members of the wedding party and their role in the ceremony.
How should I address my invitations?

Formal event invitations should be addressed in traditional form, i.e., Mr. & Mrs. John Smith. Exceptions include a wife who keeps her family name, or if she is a physician, e.g., Dr. Jane Smith.

How should I tell invited guests that children are not included?

Because it is not correct to print "Please do not bring children," word of mouth is best. Ask your friends and relatives to help spread the word.

What is the proper way to stuff the invitation and enclosures into the envelope?

Enclosures should be placed into the envelope based on size. The invitation should always be touching the back of the envelope, so it should go in first, text side facing the envelope flap. The largest enclosure card should be placed closest to the invitation. Enclosure cards are often the same size, and therefore cards the same size should be placed in order of importance. The card that is most important for your guest to see would be placed on the top of the ensemble. All the pieces should be placed with the text facing the envelope flap, so all the pieces are easy to read as your guest opens the envelope.

Typically, envelopes are stuffed in the following order:

  1. Invitation
  2. Reply Envelope with Reply Card (the reply card is tucked under reply envelope flap)
  3. Reception card

If you are using double envelopes, the invitation and ensemble would be placed in the inner envelope. You can write your guest's names on the front of this inner envelope, which is then inserted into the mail, mailing envelope. The front of the inner envelope should be facing the flap of the outer envelope, so that when your guests removes the inner envelope, they are not looking at the flap side, they are looking at their names printed on the front.

IMPORTANT: Take a sample of your entire invitation, completely assembled, to the post office to be weighed to ensure proper postage.
Can I include registry information on an invitations?

Traditionally, the best way to spread the news of any registry information is via word of mouth, even for a shower invitation. If necessary, the registry information can be included on the bottom of the invitation in a smaller font than the rest of the invitation text, or on a separate enclosure card inserted in the envelope.

Etiquette
What is the proper way to stuff the invitations and enclosures into the envelope?

The invitation and enclosure cards are placed in the envelope in order of size and importance. The largest enclosure cards are placed closest to the invitation. When enclosure cards of the same size are used, the card that is most important for your guest to see would be placed on the top of the ensemble. When you place the invitation and enclosure cards into the envelope, they should all be facing toward you, so that when you remove them from the envelope, you are able to easily read all pieces of the ensemble. While holding the envelope so that you are looking at the back of it, we recommend that you stuff the envelope in the following order:

  1. Invitation
  2. Reply Envelope
  3. Reply Card (tucked under reply envelope flap)
  4. Reception card

If you are using "double envelopes", you would place the invitation ensemble into the "inside" unsealed envelope. You would then write your guest's names on the front of this envelope. This envelope is then inserted into the "outside" gummed envelope. The front of the "inside" envelope should be facing you and inserted into the back of the "outside" envelope. TIP: Take a sample of your entire invitation -- completely assembled -- to the post office to be weighed to ensure proper postage.
